Dekayia

Specimen Photo Specimen Photo

Dekayia sp. in longitudinal (left) and tangential (right) sections. Field of view is 1.0 mm. SMH collection.

Dekayia may be ramose, encrusting, or massive, typically with low or flush monticules. Diaphragms typically absent in endozone and are also either absent or widely spaced in exozone. Zooecial walls are crenulated to undulatory for their entire length, but especially so at the zooecial bend; walls also show irregular thickenings in exozone. Mesozooids are commonly rare or absent between monticules, and they are typically beaded. Dekayia bears styles, which may start in both endozone and exozone, lie at zooecial corners (rarely between corners), and typically terminate within the exozone. A few species also have styles that originate in the exozone, lie between zooecial corners, and that are offset from the zooecial walls.
